Black Educational AIDS Project, Inc (BEAP) is the oldest continuously operating African-American AIDS service organization in the Baltimore City, Maryland metropolitan area. Since 1989, BEAP has provided prevention education, counseling, direct service referrals, and other client-centered services within the African-American community.

As we move further into the new millennium, BEAP strives to… reach more,  partner more, educate more, and test more to address the health promotion and disease prevention needs within the African-American community.  BEAP is committed to increasing HIV/AIDS awareness and creating a healthier Baltimore City and Maryland!

While African-Americans comprise 13 percent of the U.S. population and African-Americans account for nearly half of newly diagnosed cases of HIV/AIDS. It is not hearsay or a rumor… the HIV/AIDS epidemic has reached “A State of Emergency” in the African-American community. It is evident that the epidemic is indeed intensifying.

In 1985, African-Americans comprised 49% of all AIDS cases diagnosed in the state of Maryland. In 2006, African-Americans comprised 81% of all AIDS cases in Maryland and 75% of HIV cases in Maryland. In 2006, African-Americans comprised 86% of  new HIV cases in Baltimore City.
